Kashmir braces for rain, thunderstorms from June 21: MeT

The Meteorological Department has released a comprehensive weather forecast and advisory for Jammu and Kashmir for the latter half of June, predicting a shift to unsettled weather with potential rain, thunderstorms, and localized flash floods, especially in the Jammu division.

Weather Outlook:

  • June 20: Expect generally hot and dry conditions, with isolated areas experiencing heatwave to severe heatwave. A brief spell of rain or thundershowers is possible at a few locations.
  • June 21-22: Generally cloudy skies are anticipated, with intermittent rain and thundershowers at many places, and intense downpours in some areas.
  • June 23-24: Brief rain/thundershowers are possible at scattered locations.
  • June 25-27: Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places across the region.
  • June 28-30: Intermittent rain/thundershowers are expected in scattered areas.

Advisory for Farmers and General Public:

  • Farmers: It is strongly advised to complete all field operations by June 20, ahead of the anticipated wet spell.
  • Heavy Rainfall Risk: The Jammu division, in particular, should prepare for moderate to heavy rainfall on June 21-22 and June 25-27.
  • Hazard Alert: The department has warned of potential flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas throughout this period. Residents in these regions are urged to exercise caution.
