The Indian Railways are set to launch train services on a crucial 48.1-kilometer section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project on February 20th. This marks a significant step towards connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country and fulfilling the long-held dream of linking Srinagar to Kanyakumari.
The USBRL project is one of the most challenging railway endeavors undertaken in India since independence. It aims to establish a reliable, comfortable, and cost-effective transportation network through the challenging terrain of the Pir Panjal mountains. This project will not only improve connectivity for remote Himalayan areas but also integrate Kashmir with the national rail network.
