In an effort to curb drug trafficking, the Kulgam Police apprehended a suspected drug peddler during a routine patrol. The man, identified as Aaqib Hussain Bhat from Laisoo, Guddar, raised suspicion when spotted carrying a nylon bag near the ARTO office. Upon searching the bag, police discovered 3.2 kilograms of poppy straw, a contraband substance.
Bhat was arrested and taken into custody at the Kulgam Police Station. A case (FIR No. 61/2024) has been registered under sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act, and an investigation is underway.
The Kulgam Police urge community members to report any suspicious drug activity in their neighborhoods. They emphasize their commitment to tackling the drug menace and assure residents that those involved in drug peddling will face legal consequences.
