Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the 30-year conflict in Jammu and Kashmir had produced a few conflict profiteers who had enriched themselves while leaving the poor to suffer. He also said that this year’s Amarnath Yatra was a record-breaking success, with over 4.5 lakh pilgrims participating.
Addressing a gathering at Rajbhawan in Srinagar after e-inaugurating various projects for Budgam district, the LG said that the conflict profiteers had filled their own coffers and sent their children abroad to study, while the poor had been left to die on the streets. He said that these profiteers were now feeling the pain of peace and development in Jammu and Kashmir, and that he wanted their pain to continue.
The LG also said that the Amarnath Yatra had been a huge success this year, with over 4.5 lakh pilgrims visiting the holy cave shrine. He said that these pilgrims would spread the word about the peaceful atmosphere in Kashmir, which would ultimately attract more tourists to the region.
Talking to reporters later, the LG said that he had not come to Jammu and Kashmir to stay forever, but that he would leave behind a legacy of peace, prosperity, and development. He said that he would do something that people would remember.
The LG also said that preparations were underway for the local body elections, which would be held in due course. He said that every town in Budgam district has its own significance and history, and that the administration would explore the tourism potential of the area. He said that Beerwah would soon become a popular tourist destination.
The LG e-inaugurated various developmental projects for Budgam district, including a new airport, a railway station, and several green parks. He said that the administration would upgrade the existing infrastructure in the district to make it more attractive to tourists and investors.
