Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha vowed to avenge the deaths of three security personnel—two Indian army officers and one Jammu and Kashmir Police officer—who were killed in an encounter with terrorists in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sinha, who was speaking at an event in Srinagar on Sunday, said that the whole country was standing with the brave soldiers and that the people of Jammu and Kashmir also want to be rid of terrorism.
“We are committed to maintaining peace in Jammu and Kashmir. We will avenge the deaths of our soldiers. Those involved will be given a befitting reply and will have to pay a heavy price,” Sinha said.
Earlier, Lieutenant General (Retd) KJS Dhillon said that the three security personnel who were killed in the encounter were highly motivated officers with a lot of experience in counter-terrorist operations.
“Col Manpreet Singh and Major Aashish Dhonchak were very brave soldiers. Both were highly decorated. They had plenty of experience in counter-terrorist operations, especially in these areas,” Dhillon said.
“DSP Humayun Bhat…was a very motivated officer…He was very tech-savvy, intelligent and always believed in leading from the front…All are very highly motivated people. They were top-grade officers. These operations were carried out in a very synergised joint manner,” Dhillon added.
The encounter in Anantnag took place on September 13, and the three security personnel were killed in the first volley of fire from the terrorists. The security forces eventually killed one terrorist in the operation, but the other two terrorists managed to escape.
