JAMMU, July 22: In a significant step towards promoting environmental sustainability and cleanliness, a plantation-cum-sanitation drive was organised today at Government Hari Singh Higher Secondary School, Jammu, under the banner of the “Clean Jammu, Green Jammu” initiative. The event was conducted by Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) in collaboration with the Urban Forestry Division of the J&K Forest Department.
On the occasion, Senior BJP leader and MLA Jammu East, Sh. Yudhvir Sethi was the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, Yudhvir Sethi lauded the efforts of the Jammu Municipal Corporation and the Forest Department for initiating such impactful programmes at the grassroots level. He stressed that schools are the ideal platforms to cultivate environmental values among the younger generation.
The senior BJP leader emphasized the importance of community participation in environmental conservation efforts and called upon the youth to lead the change for a greener future. “It is our collective responsibility to preserve nature and ensure a clean and green environment for the generations to come,” he said.
The MLA emphasized that under PM Modi’s leadership, the focus on sanitation, cleanliness, and green development has become a national movement, inspiring people across the country to take ownership of their surroundings. He said that such drives at the local level contribute meaningfully to realizing the Prime Minister’s dream of a cleaner, healthier, and more vibrant India.
Yudhvir Sethi also assured full support from his end for future activities aimed at improving urban greenery and sanitation, and urged other institutions to take inspiration from such drives. “Clean surroundings and green spaces are essential for a healthy society, and every citizen must contribute actively,” he added.
The event was held under the dynamic leadership of Mrs. Charu Anand, Principal of the school, who played a vital role in mobilizing students, faculty, and local residents for the noble cause. A large number of saplings were planted within the school premises by enthusiastic students and staff, who actively took part in the sanitation efforts as well.
Prominent officers from the Urban Forestry Division including Dr. Divyan Rabia Khan, Ashwani, and Rafaq, along with Dr. Vinod, Health Officer from JMC, were also present.
Others who joined the initiative included Govind Sareen, Parveen Kerni, Adarsh Jathiar, Sanjeev Sawhney, Arun Sethi, Sardar Harvinder Singh, Rakesh Jandyal, Sardar Funny, and Sanjay Majotra.
The event concluded with a pledge to continue such initiatives to make Jammu a cleaner, greener, and more livable city.
