The Court of Additional Sessions Judge in Kupwara found Syed Ishfaq Shah and Khursheed Ahmad Gojar guilty of smuggling 15 kilograms of brown sugar from Karnah to Punjab.
The two men were arrested in 2019 after police recovered the drugs from their possession. Further investigation revealed that they had procured the drugs from Bashir Ahmad, a cousin of Khursheed Ahmad who lives in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on each of the convicted men.
