A fresh batch of 1,181 pilgrims left for the Amarnath Cave Shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas on Friday. The pilgrims left from the Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp in a convoy of 46 vehicles.
The group included 706 pilgrims who were headed to Pahalgam, and 475 pilgrims who were headed to Baltal. The Pahalgam batch comprised 570 males, 95 females, 35 sadhus, and six sadhvis. The Baltal batch comprised 327 males, 138 females, and ten children.
The yatra, which began on July 1, will conclude on August 31. The pilgrims are expected to reach the Amarnath Cave Shrine in the coming days.
The pilgrims were chanting “Bam Bam Bhole” as they left the base camp. This is a popular Hindu chant that is often used to invoke the god Shiva. The pilgrims were also accompanied by a heavy security contingent.
