New winter power boost for J&K: Centre allocates 1,972 MW extra electricity

Jammu & Kashmir is facing a significant power deficit of 1,400 MW during the ongoing winter season due to economic growth and increased electrification. To address this shortfall, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha met with Union Power Minister R K Singh in New Delhi.

The Central government has already allocated 1,500 MW of power from the central pool to J&K. Additionally, 472 MW is allocated under the Shakti policy. With the latest allocation of 1,972 MW, the total additional power provided to J&K reaches 3,944 MW.

Union Minister Singh assured the LG that the Ministry of Power will continue to prioritize J&K’s power needs and ensure adequate allocation.
