The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is intensifying its fight against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. In a major crackdown, they’ve seized seven properties belonging to a high-ranking member of the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) terrorist group.
Sartaj Ahmed Mantoo, a JeM leader, was arrested in January 2020 with weapons, ammunition, and explosives. He’s currently on trial for various offenses including terrorism, possession of illegal arms, and explosives.
The NIA, acting on court orders, attached Mantoo’s properties, which include land in Pulwama district. This action aims to disrupt the financial networks that support terrorism.
Investigations revealed that Mantoo, along with other JeM members, facilitated the movement of new recruits who infiltrated Kashmir. These activities were intended to carry out attacks against security forces in the region.
The NIA has recently taken strong action against JeM. This latest seizure follows the attachment of properties belonging to another high-ranking JeM member just last week.
Jaish-e-Mohammed, designated as a terrorist organization by the United Nations, has been responsible for numerous attacks in India, including those in Jammu and Kashmir.
