Following the Pahalgam attack, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah publicly pledged his full support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi amidst escalating tensions with Pakistan. He emphasized national unity, stating, “We have given our full support to the prime minister. After that, we should not be questioned. The prime minister should do whatever work is necessary.”
Abdullah countered Pakistan’s nuclear threats by reminding them of India’s own nuclear capabilities, stating, “We also have nuclear power, and we had it even before them.” He reiterated India’s defensive stance, saying, “India has never attacked anyone first. It all started from there (Pakistan), and we responded. Even today, we will not use it (nuclear weapons) unless they do. But if they use it, we have it too. May God never let such a situation arise.”
He dismissed Congress party criticisms of the Prime Minister, including claims of him being “missing in action,” simply stating, “Where is he missing? I know he is in Delhi.”
Abdullah strongly condemned Pakistan’s involvement in past terror attacks on Indian soil, citing the Mumbai, Pathankot, Uri, and Kargil attacks. He asserted that India has evidence of Pakistani involvement in these incidents. He concluded by saying that if Pakistan desires friendship, they must cease such hostile actions. Otherwise, India is prepared for any confrontation.
