Amidst heightened tensions following the April 22nd attack in Jammu and Kashmir that tragically claimed 26 civilian lives, the United States has called upon both New Delhi and Islamabad to de-escalate. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in discussions with India’s Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During these conversations, Secretary Rubio reiterated the US’s dedication to collaborating with India in the fight against terrorism and pressed Pakistan to assist in the investigation of the “unconscionable” attack in Kashmir.
Despite a continued ceasefire violation along the Line of Control for the seventh consecutive day, both India and Pakistan have persisted in implementing countermeasures. India has closed its airspace to all aircraft owned and operated by Pakistan and has also blocked the social media accounts of prominent Pakistani actors.
Against this backdrop, Pakistan has announced the appointment of Lieutenant General Asim Malik, the current head of its Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), as the nation’s new National Security Adviser.
