Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Monday, detailing India’s response to recent cross-border terrorism and Pakistan’s subsequent actions.
According to PM Modi, following “Operation Sindoor,” which involved precise and forceful Indian strikes against terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoK) resulting in the elimination of over 100 terrorists, Pakistan reacted with desperation. Instead of joining the global fight against terrorism, Pakistan allegedly launched missile and drone attacks targeting Indian schools, colleges, temples, gurudwaras, and residential areas. However, PM Modi stated that India’s “powerful air defence system” intercepted and destroyed these projectiles in the sky, preventing any incursion into Indian territory.
The Prime Minister asserted that India retaliated strongly, with Indian drones and missiles striking Pakistani air bases, which were considered a source of national pride for Pakistan. He claimed that India’s actions in the initial three days were devastating beyond Pakistan’s imagination.
PM Modi described “Operation Sindoor” as the “ultimate pledge of justice,” referencing the late-night and early-morning strikes on May 6th and 7th against terrorist hideouts and training centers in Pakistan. He highlighted locations like Bahawalpur and Muridke as long-standing “universities of global terrorism,” linking them to major international attacks, including 9/11, the London Tube bombings, and numerous terrorist incidents in India. He stated that Indian missiles and drones not only damaged terrorist buildings but also shattered their morale.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the Indian Armed Forces were given complete freedom to eradicate terrorists following the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, where 26 civilians were killed. He saluted the armed forces, intelligence units, and scientists for their bravery in achieving the objectives of “Operation Sindoor,” dedicating their feat to every mother, sister, and daughter of the country. He described the Pahalgam attack as a barbaric act aimed at breaking the nation’s hopes and expressed that it was a personal source of great pain.
PM Modi reiterated that India would not tolerate the removal of “sindoor” (a symbol of marriage for Hindu women) from the foreheads of Indian sisters and daughters, implying a strong stance against terrorism. He also mentioned that India had taken steps to put the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance as a strong message to Pakistan regarding its support for cross-border terrorism.
