During a press conference on Friday, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi of the Indian government reported multiple airspace violations by the Pakistani army along the entire western border on the nights of May 7th and 8th. Col Qureshi stated that these incursions, involving an estimated 300 to 400 drones at 36 different locations, were intended to target Indian military infrastructure.
In addition to the drone activity, the Pakistani army reportedly fired heavy-calibre weapons along the Line of Control. Col Qureshi also mentioned an attempted attack on the military station in Bhatinda by a Pakistani Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), which was successfully thwarted.
According to initial analysis, the drones used in these airspace violations are believed to be Turkey’s SONGAR drones, and the Indian armed forces are currently conducting further analysis. Col Qureshi confirmed that many of these drones were intercepted and shot down using both kinetic and non-kinetic methods.
