Sunil Sharma, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, strongly criticized Pakistan’s persistent support for terrorism, despite India’s consistent efforts to foster positive relations with its neighbors.
He emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to peace, highlighting the 2014 invitation to then-Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for his swearing-in as a demonstration of India’s desire for amity. “PM Modi’s policy is clear: we seek peaceful relations with all neighboring countries. The invitation to Nawaz Sharif underscored India’s pursuit of peace, not conflict,” Sharma stated.
However, he accused Pakistan of repeatedly undermining India’s goodwill by facilitating terrorism. “Pakistan, known for its duplicity, continued its acts of betrayal. From Pathankot to Uri, they persisted with terror activities. Prime Minister Modi’s decisive response, including surgical and airstrikes, along with a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, has yielded significant results,” he added.
Sharma asserted that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, local terrorist recruitment has significantly decreased, and foreign militants are being effectively neutralized. “The impact is evident today. Local recruitment is almost non-existent, and foreign terrorists are being eliminated. This is a direct consequence of PM Modi’s robust policies. As the Prime Minister reiterated, India desires peace, not war, but will not tolerate terrorism,” he said.
He dismissed Pakistan’s recent accusations of Indian-sponsored terrorism in Balochistan as unfounded.
Regarding the ongoing military operation in Kupwara, where security forces initiated a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Krumbhoora (Zachaldara) village, Rajwar, following intelligence about terrorist presence, Sharma affirmed the security forces’ determination. “Our security forces will persist in their operations. They are dedicated to completely eradicating terrorism. The Kupwara encounter exemplifies their unwavering efforts to eliminate terrorists from their hideouts,” Sharma concluded.
