Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, in which 26 people, including a Nepali national, lost their lives, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a second meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) this Wednesday morning, likely around 11 a.m.
Key members of the CCS, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, are expected to attend this high-level discussion. Reports indicate that a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs will likely follow.
This second CCS meeting within a week occurs a day after Defence Minister Singh met with PM Modi at his residence. During their 40-50 minute discussion, Union Minister Singh is believed to have briefed the Prime Minister on potential significant actions India might take against Pakistan as a response to the Pahalgam attack.
In the initial CCS meeting held on April 23rd, the day after the incident, and also presided over by PM Modi, India implemented several measures targeting Pakistan. These actions included the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty, the closure of the Attari border, the revocation of visas for Pakistani citizens, the blocking of numerous Pakistani YouTube channels and X accounts, and a reduction in diplomatic ties through the downsizing of embassy staff,
