Anantnag police have successfully resolved an ATM fraud case, resulting in the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of the stolen funds.
The investigation began following a complaint received on March 21, 2025, from Mohd Bakir Mir, a retired government employee from Chittergul. Mr. Mir reported that on March 15, 2025, while attempting to withdraw cash at an ATM in Chittergul, he encountered a technical issue. He sought assistance from a young man present, who then deceptively swapped Mr. Mir’s ATM card. Subsequently, the individual used the stolen card to withdraw a significant amount of money from Mr. Mir’s account.
A case was registered at Police Station Uttrasoo under FIR No. 10/2025, under sections 303(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Following a thorough investigation, police apprehended two suspects, Zahoor Ahmad Itoo and Muzamil Ahmad Itoo, both residents of Sanigam, Kulgam, from Kulgam district.
During interrogation, both suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime, and the stolen cash was recovered based on their disclosures.
The police reiterate their commitment to public safety and advise citizens to exercise caution when using ATMs, avoiding assistance from unknown individuals.
