The Jammu and Kashmir Police continue their strong stance against drug trafficking, apprehending five individuals in separate operations across the Kulgam and Awantipora regions and seizing a significant amount of illegal substances.
According to a police spokesperson, officers from Police Station Qazigund, conducting checks at a checkpoint in Lavdoora, stopped an Alto car bearing registration number JK14J-1218. Inside, they found Farook Ahmad Bocken, son of Mohd Yousuf Bocken from Pinger Ramnagar Udhampur, and Tanveer Hussain, son of Manzoor Ahmad Bocken from RITI Kooh Nala Udhampur. Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered 14.7 kilograms of poppy straw concealed within two bags. Both individuals were immediately arrested, and the vehicle used in the crime was confiscated.
In another operation, a police team led by Police Post Jawahar Tunnel intercepted an Alto car with registration number JK14L-2294 during a vehicle inspection. The occupants were identified as Talib Hussain Bakarwal, son of Ghulam Hussain Bakarwal from Chenani Udhampur, and Yasir Ali Bokad, son of Gafoor Ahmad Bokad from Ramnagar Udhampur. A search of the car yielded 9 kilograms of poppy straw. Both individuals were arrested, and their vehicle was seized.
The spokesperson further stated that cases have been registered under the appropriate legal provisions at Police Station Qazigund, and investigations are currently underway.
Additionally, in Awantipora, a police team from Police Station Awantipora set up a checkpoint at Padgampora Crossing, where they intercepted a suspicious individual named Nazim Ahmad Mir, son of Ab Hamid Mir, a resident of Kawani. Upon searching him, police recovered 120 grams of charas in stick form, wrapped in maize husk. He was subsequently arrested, and a case (FIR No. 100/2025) has been registered at Police Station Awantipora under relevant legal sections, with an investigation now in progress.
The police spokesperson appealed to the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of drug peddling or other criminal activity to their nearest police station or by dialing 112. He urged the community to collaborate with the police in their efforts to eliminate the drug menace from society.
