Police Raids in Srinagar, Sopore Focus on Banned Organizations

“Srinagar Police conducted multiple searches across Srinagar and Sopore targeting individuals suspected of involvement with banned organizations, including the Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference (Bhat Group), Jammu and Kashmir Muslim League (Masrat Alam Group), and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (Shabir Shah Group).

The operations were part of ongoing investigations into cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Indian Penal Code (IPC). Specifically, the searches relate to FIR No. 15/2024 (Rajbagh Police Station), FIR No. 04/2024 (Saddar Police Station), and FIR No. 03/2024 (Shaheed Gunj Police Station), all concerning alleged unlawful activities.

Raids were executed at the residences of Professor Abdul Gani Bhat in Sopore and Srinagar, and at the residence of Shabir Ahmad Shah.

Additionally, seven locations in Srinagar were searched in connection with FIR No. 03/2024, targeting:

  • Masrat Alam Bhat (Habba Kadal)
  • Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat (Batmaloo)
  • Ghulam Nabi Wagay (Khanyar)
  • Feroz Ahmad Khan (Khanyar)
  • Mohammad Nazir Khan (Koolipora, Khanyar)
  • Hakeem Abdul Rashid (Botakadal, Lal Bazar)
  • Javaid Ahmad Munshi (Chanpora)

Search warrants were obtained from the Special Judge designated under the NIA Act in Srinagar, and all searches were conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses.

Police stated that the investigation aims to dismantle the remaining elements of secessionist and terrorist networks in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and prosecuting individuals involved in these activities.”
