Given the ongoing severe heatwave, Minister for Education, Sakina Itoo, announced on Friday the possibility of an early summer break for schools, commencing before July. This decision comes after school timings were already adjusted due to the soaring temperatures.
Itoo had previously indicated on Thursday that a 10-day summer break was likely to begin on July 1st, with potential extensions based on weather conditions. The urgency for an early break is underscored by Srinagar recording its hottest day of the season on Thursday, with the mercury hitting 35.2 degrees Celsius.
