Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district arrested two Punjab residents on Friday and recovered 19 kg of poppy straw from them.
A police party from Qazigund police station was on patrol when they noticed two men carrying luggage bags in suspicious circumstances. The men tried to flee when they saw the police, but were chased and apprehended.
During a search of their luggage bags, police recovered 19 kg of a poppy straw-like substance. The men were identified as Balwinder Singh and Harvinder Singh, both from Ludhiana, Punjab.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the two men at Qazigund police station. An investigation is underway.
Police have urged the public to contact the nearest police station or dial 112 if they see any drug peddling or other crimes.
