A Pakistani intruder was shot dead by Border Security Force (BSF) troops along the International Border in Punjab’s Pathankot district on Monday morning.
The incident took place around 12:30 am near Simbal Sakol village in Pathankot. The BSF troops noticed some suspicious movement and challenged the intruder, but he did not stop and continued moving ahead. Sensing threat, the troops opened fire, killing the intruder on the spot.
This is the second time in a week that the BSF has shot dead a Pakistani intruder along the Punjab border. On August 11, BSF troops neutralised another Pakistani intruder in Tarn Taran district.
The BSF has increased its patrolling along the border in Punjab in the wake of the recent incidents of infiltration. The force has also deployed additional troops and equipment to prevent any further infiltration attempts.
The latest incident comes at a time when India and Pakistan are engaged in talks to resolve the Kashmir issue. The two countries have held several rounds of talks in recent months, but no breakthrough has been achieved so far.
The shooting of the Pakistani intruder is likely to further strain relations between the two countries. It remains to be seen how Pakistan reacts to the incident.
