Right now our focus is to ensure a smooth and successful Mela Kheerbawani, Amaranth Yatra: CM Omar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stated on Tuesday that the immediate priority of the government is to ensure the smooth and successful organization of the Mela Kheer Bhawani and the annual Amarnath Yatra.

After a visit to Ganderbal, Abdullah informed reporters that the government is implementing comprehensive measures to guarantee the safety and unhindered conduct of both events. He emphasized that the civil administration is making ample arrangements, complemented by robust security measures, for the seamless execution of the Mela Kheer Bhawani and the Amarnath Yatra.

Abdullah acknowledged the severe impact on the tourism sector, but noted that the current circumstances are not conducive to its immediate revival. He affirmed that once the Amarnath Yatra concludes, the government will convene with stakeholders to devise strategies for the resurgence of tourism. He added that external tour operators are also keen on the revival of tourism in the region, and while some groups have started to arrive, concrete revival measures will be undertaken only after the yatra’s completion.
