Sakeena Itoo briefs house on Anantnag fire relief efforts

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, addressed the Legislative Assembly today, detailing the government’s response to the devastating fire in Kadipora, Anantnag. She stated that, upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s directive, she, along with MLAs Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, Abdul Majeed Larmi, and Altaf Ahmad Wani, conducted an on-site assessment of the damage and relief efforts.  

“The government is committed to both immediate and long-term rehabilitation of the affected families,” Minister Itoo assured the House. She confirmed that the Anantnag district administration has been instructed to:
  • Provide immediate relief from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund and the Disaster Management Relief Fund.  
  • Expedite the rehabilitation process, including providing temporary shelter, food supplies, and urgent financial aid.   
  • Conduct a thorough damage assessment and ensure swift compensation for affected households.  
  • Prioritize the provision of timber to the victim families.

The Minister also reported that a meeting was held with the district administration to evaluate and ensure the effectiveness of the relief efforts.  

This briefing followed a request from Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather for an update on the relief measures, prompted by Legislator Dr. Bashir Ahmad Veeri’s earlier raising of the Kadipora fire incident in the Assembly.
