Salal Dam Gates Closed on Chenab, Reasi Water Levels Plunge

On Monday, the closure of all gates at the Salal Dam on the Chenab River led to a considerable decrease in water levels within the Reasi district. Simultaneously, water was observed flowing from the Baglihar Hydroelectric Power Project Dam, also situated on the Chenab River but in the Ramban district.

BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on X following this development. His post stated, “It takes political will to make tough decisions in India’s interest, and Prime Minister Modi has demonstrated that through his actions. This is the muscular Modi Doctrine, firm and unwavering in its fight against terrorism. Water and the blood of our citizens cannot flow together. Let that be clear.”

Reactions from local residents in the area indicated support for the government’s actions. One resident expressed, “We are happy that the government has stopped the flow of water to Pakistan. The way they killed our tourists in Pahalgam, Pakistan deserves a befitting reply. We are with the government in whatever decision they take.”

Another local resident commented, “This is a very big achievement. This step by the government is very good. Our government is giving Pakistan a befitting reply in a lot of ways. We are all with the government.”

It’s worth noting that the water level of the Chenab River had previously increased on May 2nd due to substantial rainfall in the Akhnoor sector of Jammu and Kashmir.
