In a swift crackdown on illegal bovine smuggling, Samba police intercepted and apprehended four individuals involved in two separate attempts on Monday morning. A total of 11 animals were rescued and three vehicles seized during the operations.
The first incident occurred at Mansar Morh, where a police party stopped two load carriers for routine checks. Upon inspection, six bovines were discovered hidden inside, being transported without proper permits. The drivers, identified as Junaid Ahmed and Farooq Ahmed Malik, along with two women accomplices, were apprehended. All six animals were safely secured, and both vehicles confiscated. A case under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered at Samba police station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, another police team at Tapyal, National Highway, intercepted a third load carrier lacking a registration number. During inspection, five bovines were found tied inhumanely inside, being smuggled illegally. Unfortunately, the driver managed to escape under the cover of darkness. However, the vehicle was seized, and the rescued animals were transferred to a safe haven. A case under Sections 188 IPC and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act has been registered at Ghagwal police station for further investigation.
