In a statement issued yesterday, the Indian Army reported that a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kupwara, north Kashmir, led to the killing of a terrorist and the injury of a non-commissioned officer (NCO).
Based on intelligence suggesting the presence of terrorists in the general area of Kowut, Kupwara, a search operation was launched in the days leading up to July 23rd. Army troops spotted suspicious movement on July 24th and challenged the individuals, who then opened fire. A gunfight ensued, resulting in the death of one terrorist and injuries to an NCO. The operation is ongoing.
This differs slightly from the police report, which stated that the gunfight erupted in the Tumkhani Top area of Lolab.
