Sgr-Leh highway closed after Zojila Pass snowfall

Higher reaches of Kashmir and Ladakh, including the picturesque Zojila Pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway, received a blanket of light snowfall on Saturday. The health resort of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district also experienced moderate snowfall, adding a layer of white magic to the already stunning landscape.

Zojila Pass, however, bore the brunt of the snowfall, accumulating 2-3 inches of snow and prompting the authorities to close the Srinagar-Leh highway for safety reasons. The slippery road conditions posed a danger to traffic, and officials suspended movement until the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) clears the snow.

Meanwhile, Leh and its surroundings, along with Kargil, Zanskar, and Minamarg, reported light snowfall, painting the region in a wintry spectacle. While the snowfall brought a festive air to the mountains, it also disrupted transportation, reminding everyone of the harsh realities of winter in these high-altitude areas.

Overall, the light snowfall served as a gentle introduction to winter in Kashmir and Ladakh, leaving the region adorned in a fresh coat of snow and bracing for the colder months ahead.
