The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) is using drone technology for seed dispersal and has planted over 1.7 million saplings as part of its yearly greening initiative in the Trikuta hills of Jammu and Kashmir. This effort aims to preserve the natural beauty of the cave shrine.
SMVDSB Chief Executive Officer Anshul Garg stated that this initiative is a prime example of successful partnerships and community involvement in environmental conservation. The Shrine Board has teamed up with the Central Government Pensioners Welfare Association (CGPWA), Jammu, to promote eco-protection and sustainable practices within the local community. This collaboration has significantly boosted awareness due to CGPWA’s extensive network.
With the current monsoon season, SMVDSB and CGPWA are once again making various plant species available to the public through the “Vaishnavi Vatika” plant sale counter at Vaishnavi Dham in Jammu. This counter offers a selection of about 28 indigenous plant species, all carefully grown in the Board’s advanced nursery in Kunia village. These native plants are ideal for the local climate and ecosystem, allowing individuals to easily contribute to conservation efforts.
Garg also highlighted other pioneering eco-friendly initiatives by the Board, including waste and water management and solar power generation, all under the guidance of the lieutenant governor.
