The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted searches in the Rawalpora area of Shopian district on Tuesday in connection with a case of attacks on non-local laborers.
The searches were conducted at the homes of Zahid Ahmad Shah, Hanzil Ahmad Shah, and Mohd Yaqoob Shah. A hand grenade was recovered from a Hyundai Venue car at Mohd Yaqoob Shah’s house. A Tata Nexon car and a Duke motorcycle were also seized from the compound of Mohd Yaqoob Shah.
The police said that the searches were conducted on the basis of information provided by Adnan Shafi, who has been arrested in connection with the case. Shafi had told the police that the cars and motorcycle were used by the militants to attack the non-local laborers.
The police said that the seized items will be used as evidence in the case. They have also registered a case against the accused persons under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act.
The searches and seizures are part of the ongoing crackdown by the security forces on terror elements in Jammu and Kashmir. The police have said that they will not tolerate any kind of violence against innocent civilians.
