Srinagar and Qazigund in Jammu and Kashmir have experienced remarkably high temperatures this June.
According to independent weather forecaster Faizan Arif, Srinagar recorded its hottest June since 1978 and the second hottest since observations began in 1892. The average maximum temperature for June 2025 in Srinagar was , with a mean minimum of , leading to an overall average temperature of . The only June hotter than this year was in 1978, when the overall average reached , driven by a higher mean maximum of , despite a lower mean minimum of . Interestingly, June 2008 still holds the record for the highest mean minimum temperature at . The overall average temperature of in June 2025 was also observed in 1971 and 1973.
Qazigund, in south Kashmir, also saw its warmest June in over 50 years. June 2025 registered a mean maximum of and a mean minimum of , resulting in an overall average temperature of . This is the highest since 1973, which holds the record for Qazigund’s hottest June with an average of (mean max , mean min ). The June average in 1978 was also , with a slightly lower mean maximum () and a bit higher minimum (). Qazigund’s highest average minimum for June remains , recorded in 1971, when the overall mean temperature was .
