Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the BJP has consistently supported regional governments without discrimination. Speaking at the Rising Bharat Summit 2025, hosted by CNN-News18, Shah described his recent meeting with former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah as productive, emphasizing discussions on development and governance.
According to the Srinagar-based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, Shah assured that the central government is dedicated to collaborating with the elected leadership of Jammu and Kashmir. While he did not provide a specific timeline for the restoration of statehood, he affirmed that it would occur at the appropriate time.
The issue of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood has been prominent since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which resulted in the state’s division into two Union Territories.
