Peoples Conference (PC) leader Sajad Lone expressed disappointment with the Supreme Court’s verdict on Article 370, stating that justice continues to evade the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He acknowledged the legal removal of the article, but emphasized that its spirit remains a vital part of their political aspirations.
While the court upheld the central government’s decision to abrogate Article 370, it also directed the conduct of assembly elections in the Union Territory by September 30, 2024, and the restoration of statehood at the earliest. However, Lone criticized the court’s lack of explicit commentary on the statehood issue, suggesting that it avoided setting a precedent for future misuse while subtly endorsing the same in Jammu and Kashmir.
Lone expressed hope that justice will eventually prevail, despite the current setbacks.
