Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the Tawi Aarti at the newly developed Tawi Riverfront in Jammu, coinciding with the Baisakhi festival. He described the Tawi River as the “soul” of Jammu, emphasizing its cultural and spiritual significance. The Aarti, he stated, is a step towards reviving the region’s ancient culture and values.
“Tawi Aarti, the sacred ceremony, is the medium to express our ancient values and ideals on the banks of this sacred river. Today’s grand aarti has started a new era,” Sinha said.
He urged citizens to prioritize pollution reduction to transform the riverfront into a prominent destination. He also called upon the citizens of Jammu to take pride in their city.
Sinha commended Jammu Smart City Limited for its contributions, highlighting various projects:
- Heritage Trail Project: Revitalizing the old city area near Raghunath Bazaar.
- Infrastructure Upgrades: Improving Residency Road and developing comprehensive street enhancements in Gandhi Nagar.
- Green Space Development: Creating over five hectares of green spaces across the city, including Panama Chowk, Balidan Stambh, and areas near Jammu University and Ranbir Canal.
- Public Art Integration: Incorporating 3D murals, wall paintings, and sculptures to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal.
- Enhanced Public Transport: Introduction of 100 electric AC buses with live tracking, CCTV, and digital payment options.
- Advanced Traffic Management: Implementation of an Integrated Command and Control Center (ICCC) and an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to improve city efficiency and safety.
Sinha emphasized that the Smart City initiative focuses on improving the lives of its residents. “Our vision is clear — to make Jammu not just smart, but safe, green, inclusive, and future-ready,” he concluded.
