It’s devastating to hear about the attack in Pahalgam today. Reports indicate that terrorists opened fire at a well-known meadow near the town, resulting in the tragic deaths of 26 people. Among the victims were reportedly mostly tourists, including two foreigners and two locals, according to a high-ranking official. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah described the attack as “much larger than anything we’ve seen directed at civilians in recent years,” and authorities are still working to ascertain the full toll. This horrific incident occurred around 3 pm, coinciding with the visit of US Vice President J D Vance to India and at a time when the tourist and trekking season in the region is just beginning.
