A 40-year-old truck driver, Tirlochan Singh of Jammu, died under unclear circumstances on Friday in Udhampur district, Jammu and Kashmir. Singh was transporting fruits from Kashmir to Maharashtra when his truck was stopped for inspection at Jakhani Check Naka.
Transporters claim that Singh was fatally beaten by police during the check, sparking outrage and demands for a thorough investigation. Authorities maintain that Singh fainted during the inspection and was promptly rushed to the Associated Hospital Government Medical College Udhampur, where he later succumbed.
An autopsy has been conducted and the body handed over to the family for final rites. However, with conflicting accounts and allegations of police brutality, questions swirl around the true cause of Singh’s death. Additional Superintendent of Police, Anwar-ul-Haq, has confirmed an inquiry to ascertain the truth.
