Banihal, June 27, 2025 – Two individuals died early Friday morning in a tragic road accident on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. A Canter truck (JK14J-7550) en route from Jammu to Srinagar skidded off the road near Nachilana and plunged into a deep gorge in the Banihal area of Ramban district.
According to SHO Banihal Ashiq Bukhari, the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in the instant deaths of both the driver and conductor at the scene. The deceased driver has been identified as Raju Bhat, son of Desraj Bhat, from Udhampur. The identity of the conductor is yet to be confirmed.
A rescue operation was promptly launched by police and Quick Response Team (QRT) Ramsoo volunteers, who recovered the bodies from the severely damaged truck. The bodies have been transported to Sub District Hospital Banihal for medico-legal formalities. Police are currently investigating the cause of the incident.
