Following in the footsteps of Seerat Naaz, a schoolgirl from Jammu and Kashmir who petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for better school facilities, a disabled girl named Kajal from Udhampur district has written to the PM with a similar request.
Kajal, a sixth-grader at Government Middle School in Meldi, wrote to Modi urging him to build better roads leading to her school. She described the current road as dangerous and difficult to navigate, and said that she and her classmates have fallen many times while walking to school.
Kajal’s letter has drawn attention to the plight of students at the school, which has 101 students, including many who are differently abled. The only approach road to the school is in poor condition, and students have no choice but to walk to school, risking falls and accidents.
Ranjeet Singh Kotwal, the assistant district development commissioner in Udhampur, has said that he will take action to address Kajal’s concerns. He plans to meet with the deputy commissioner and arrange for amenities to be provided to the school.
Kajal’s letter is a reminder of the importance of infrastructure in education. Poor roads can make it difficult for students to get to school, and can also be a safety hazard. The government should take action to ensure that all students have access to safe and reliable transportation to and from school.
