Wayanad, Kerala: The death toll from the devastating landslides and floods that ravaged Wayanad district continued to climb on the fifth day of rescue operations, reaching a grim 344. Over 200 people remain unaccounted for.
The disaster has claimed the lives of at least 30 children, with many bodies found dismembered. While 146 victims have been identified, 74 remain nameless.
A massive rescue effort involving thousands of personnel from the armed forces, paramilitary, police, and fire service is underway in the hardest-hit areas of Churalmala, Velarimala, Mundakayil, and Punchirimadom. Nearly 9,500 displaced residents are sheltered in over 1,500 relief camps, with 84 injured people receiving medical treatment.
