North Kashmir Police apprehended a 27-year-old man, Shahid Saleem Lone, for allegedly transporting a cache of weapons, including a pistol, ammunition, and grenades, concealed within a bag of rice. The incident occurred in Handwara during a routine checkpoint at Chhampura.
Lone, a resident of Bijhama Boniyar in Baramulla, was intercepted while riding his motorcycle from Taratpura. Upon inspection of his rice bag, security forces discovered the hidden arsenal.
Initial investigations suggest that Lone, a graduate, had previously been involved in drug smuggling. Facing financial difficulties, he turned to illegal activities. He was allegedly tasked with delivering the weapons to Sopore but was apprehended before reaching his destination.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover further details about the source of the weapons and any potential accomplices.
