Militancy in Jammu and Kashmir has decreased significantly in 2023, with only 10 local youths joining the ranks of militants, compared to 110 the previous year.
Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh appealed to the ultras to give up violence and return to the mainstream, saying that militancy in Jammu and Kashmir has been “almost finished” and its “remnants” will be eliminated soon.
Singh said that even among the 10 local youths who joined militancy this year, six have been killed and the remaining four will also be eliminated. He added that security forces do not feel happy about the death of militants and want them to return to the mainstream and lead a normal life.
The DGP said that there has been a great change in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir over the last five years, with the atmosphere of fear ending and people of all ages able to move around freely. He said that North Kashmir is almost free of militancy, with only a few odd floating militants who keep moving from one place to another, and that they will also be eliminated soon.
