An encounter ensued between militants and security forces during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the central Kashmir district of Badgam on Monday afternoon, a police spokesman said.
He said on a tip-off about the presence of militants in village Kawoosa, Badgam, troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint search operation.
However, he said, when search party was moving towards a particular area in the village, militants, reportedly hiding in a house, opened fire. The fire was retaliated ensuing in an encounter, he said adding further details are awaited.
