Mild tremor felt in Kupwara, no damage

On Thursday, August 21, 2025, an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.5 struck the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake occurred at 1:41:33 PM IST at a depth of 5 kilometers. The epicenter was located at latitude 34.68° N and longitude 74.39° E.

This event follows two earlier earthquakes that occurred in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. The first was a magnitude 4.0 earthquake, which occurred at 4:39:45 AM IST at a depth of 10 kilometers. Its coordinates were 32.71° N latitude and 76.11° E longitude. A second, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake, struck Chamba at 3:27:09 AM IST at a depth of 20 kilometers, with its epicenter at 32.87° N latitude and 76.09° E longitude.
