Reasi District Police have apprehended Anwar Ali Chouhan, a former Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) militant, who had evaded arrest for 18 years in connection with serious militancy-related criminal cases. Chouhan, son of Haji Nizam Din Chouhan, aged 40, was arrested after an extensive operation.
Chouhan joined the HM in 2001 and remained active for seven years. He surrendered in 2007 in Kashmir but subsequently absconded, repeatedly changing his location to avoid arrest in multiple high-profile cases registered at Police Station Reasi.
Despite numerous attempts and court-ordered proceedings under sections 82 and 83 of the Criminal Procedure Code (Cr.PC), his whereabouts remained unknown.
Under the direction of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Sh. Paramvir Singh, JKPS, a specialized police team was formed. Utilizing technical surveillance and persistent efforts, the team developed actionable intelligence. After coordinated raids, Chouhan was apprehended in a forested area near Gujjar Kothian, Talwara.
