Jammu has seen a sharp rise in cases of conjunctivitis, or eye flu, in recent weeks. Nearly 3,000 cases have been reported in the past week alone, and doctors are advising patients to isolate themselves at home to prevent the spread of the infection.
The head of the ophthalmology department at Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, Prof Ashok Sharma, said that the number of patients visiting the OPD with eye flu symptoms has increased from 200 to 250 per day. He estimates that 70 to 80 percent of these cases are confirmed conjunctivitis.
CMO Harbkash Singh said that eye flu is a common occurrence during the monsoon season, and that the symptoms include redness, itching, and watery eyes. He urged people to practice good hygiene, such as washing their hands frequently and avoiding touching their eyes, to help prevent the spread of the infection.
