On Wednesday, the Crime Branch in Jammu and Kashmir arrested three individuals, including an ex-serviceman and a suspended government school teacher, for their alleged involvement in several cheating cases.
According to a Crime Branch spokesperson, ex-serviceman Saroop Lal of Bari Brahmana and suspended teacher Jameel Anjum of Jammu are repeat offenders, with 10 and nine FIRs against them respectively. These cases involve various fraudulent activities, such as deceiving young people under the guise of securing government jobs.
The third accused, Arvinder Singh of Jammu, was apprehended for his involvement in a case related to the creation of false permanent resident certificates and the fraudulent acquisition of land.
The spokesperson further stated that Anjum was arrested for defrauding Karan Singh of Rani Park, Jammu, of Rs 28.20 lakhs with the promise of a government job. Similarly, Lal was taken into custody for defrauding Ram Paul of Kathua of Rs 5 lakhs under the same pretext.
Following their arrests, Senior Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch (Jammu), Benam Tosh, confirmed that chargesheets against all three accused have been filed in local courts in Jammu and Kathua.
