Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary sharply criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday, challenging their dedication to the region. He specifically targeted the BJP’s failure to reinstate the Darbar Move, a long-standing tradition in Jammu and Kashmir, during their ten-year tenure.
“We have always ensured parity between Jammu and Kashmir. Why did the BJP neglect to implement the Darbar Move in the past decade?” Choudhary questioned reporters. “The National Conference has a proven track record of delivering equitable treatment to Jammu.”
The Darbar Move, a practice dating back to Maharaja Ranjit Singh, involves the bi-annual relocation of the state government’s administrative offices. From May to October, operations are based in Srinagar, the summer capital, while the remaining six months see the government functioning from Jammu, the winter capital. This tradition is considered crucial for maintaining regional balance.
“The Darbar Move would have significantly boosted Jammu’s economy. Business in Jammu would have thrived,” Choudhary asserted. “Historically, Jammu received fair treatment under National Conference governments. The BJP’s current claims of discrimination against Jammu are merely publicity stunts.”
Choudhary concluded by reiterating the National Conference’s consistent commitment to prioritizing Jammu’s interests and ensuring justice for the region.
