Chief Justice Tashi Rabstan of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh conducted an official visit to the District Court Complex in Anantnag. He was received with a guard of honor, and the visit was attended by key officials including Principal District and Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina, Deputy Commissioner Fakhurddin Hamid, and Senior Superintendent of Police G V Sundeep Chakravarthy.
A significant portion of the visit involved an interaction with the District Bar Association. The Chief Justice addressed the association’s primary concern: the urgent construction of a new court complex. He pledged swift action, outlining plans for a modern facility featuring spacious courtrooms, dedicated chambers for judicial officers and advocates, comfortable waiting areas for litigants, advanced digital case management systems, and robust security infrastructure. Both the Deputy Commissioner and the SSP assured their full cooperation to facilitate the project’s smooth implementation.
Another critical issue raised was the necessity for a full-time Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Judge in Anantnag. Recognizing the growing volume of specialized cases requiring dedicated jurisdiction, the Chief Justice committed to taking the necessary steps to appoint an NDPS Judge for the district.
Following the interaction with the Bar Association, the Chief Justice convened a meeting with the judicial officers of Anantnag. This included Principal District & Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina, Additional District & Sessions Judge Masarat Roohl, Special Judge UAPA Manzoor Ahmad Khan, Secretary DLSA Fozia Paul, Chief Judicial Magistrate Feroz Ahmad Khan, Special Mobile Magistrate R. Lubna Sultan, and Munsiff JMIC Arshad Aziz Oureshi, as well as acting president and members of the bar.
During this meeting, the Chief Justice emphasized the imperative of expediting the disposal of long-pending cases and reducing the existing case backlog. He further directed judicial officers to ensure timely updates for all pending cases. He commended the judges for their efforts and encouraged them to continue their work in ensuring efficient judicial proceedings.
The visit concluded with a strong reaffirmation of the judiciary’s commitment to enhancing legal infrastructure and accelerating the delivery of justice in Anantnag.
