Following the recent tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22nd, which resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen and left several others injured, the security forces have significantly intensified their counter-terrorism efforts.
In Anantnag district, the Anantnag Police, in close coordination with the Army, CRPF, and other security agencies, have launched extensive search and cordon operations. These operations have included numerous raids across the district, with continuous day and night searches being conducted under heightened vigilance. To date, approximately 175 suspects have been detained for questioning as part of the effort to dismantle terrorist support networks.
To bolster security measures, additional Mobile Vehicle Check Points (MVCPs) have been established throughout Anantnag to monitor suspicious movements and enhance public safety. Furthermore, Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs), ambushes, and intensified patrolling have been initiated, particularly focusing on high-density forest areas, to actively seek out any potential terrorist presence and secure the district.
The Anantnag Police have affirmed their unwavering commitment, alongside partner security forces, to maintaining peace and preventing any attempts to disrupt normalcy in the district. They have also appealed to the public for their cooperation, urging citizens to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
Separately, security forces in the Rajouri region of Jammu and Kashmir have also been placed on high alert on Saturday. They are currently conducting thorough vehicle checks on the highway, with a specific focus on identifying suspicious activity along the crucial Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch highway. The increased deployment of forces in the area aims to prevent any untoward incidents.
On Friday, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time since the Pahalgam terror attack. During his visit, he reviewed the security situation within the Union Territory and received briefings on the actions being undertaken by formations against terrorists operating within their territory, as well as the Pakistan Army’s attempts to violate the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC).
