Minister Sakeena Itoo, responsible for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, convened a meeting with Social Welfare Department (SWD) heads, emphasizing a “citizen-first” approach to public service delivery and welfare scheme implementation.
The meeting, attended by key officials including Commissioner Secretary Sanjeev Verma and Directors of various SWD missions, aimed to assess the progress of 2024-25 schemes and strategize for 2025-26.
Minister Itoo stressed the importance of inter-departmental collaboration and community involvement to enhance scheme effectiveness and public participation. She directed officials to streamline processes, eliminate unnecessary delays, and prioritize beneficiary facilitation. “Our systems should reflect compassion and efficiency,” she stated.
To ensure effective implementation, she called for robust monitoring mechanisms, data-driven decision-making, and innovative approaches to support vulnerable populations.
Reviewing key schemes like the Integrated Social Security Scheme (ISSS), National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), and programs for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, girl children (Ladli Beti), and pregnant women (PMMVY), she advocated for regular audits, improved inter-departmental coordination, and technology integration to enhance transparency and accountability.
Minister Itoo also instructed officials to conduct monthly grievance redressal camps to gather beneficiary feedback and ensure timely issue resolution. She highlighted the need for public awareness campaigns to ensure citizens are informed of their entitlements.
Each department head presented their progress reports and future roadmaps through PowerPoint presentations.
